There are many reasons for driving license intervention in Sweden. Sweden does not have a penalty point system like some countries, so an intervention happens on a case by case basis depending on the severity of the offense.

Sweden has a near-zero tolerance for driving under the influence.

The process of getting your driving license reinstated depends largely on the length of the ban period and whether you were still in your probation period when it happened.

- If the ban period was 12 months or less and you were not in your probationary period when it happened, you will be able to apply for a new driving license permit (körkortstillstånd) and get your driving license back once you serve the driving ban without having to retake any test.
- If the driving ban period is more than 12 months, or your driving license has been completely revoked or cancelled, you will have to serve the driving ban, apply for a driving license permit, and are treated as a new driver, so you have to take both the theory and practical tests(you do not need to take the risk training if the previous one’s 5 years validity is not over yet) before your license can be reinstated.
- If you get any driving ban during your 2 year probationary period, you will have to serve the ban and then go through the entire driving license process from scratch.
